The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is India’s premier central recruiting agency responsible for appointments to and examinations for All India services and Group A & group B of Central services. The Constitution of India mandates the commission to ensure a fair and transparent recruitment process.

 

The UPSC invites applications for the Combined Geo-Scientist Examination 2025. This examination aims to recruit dynamic and talented individuals for various positions in the Geological Survey of India and the Central Ground Water Board.

Eligibility Criteria:

Educational Qualification: 

  • Geologist Group ‘A’ (GSI):
    • Master’s in Geological Science, Geology, Applied Geology, Geo-Exploration, Mineral Exploration, Engineering Geology, Marine Geology, Earth Science, Oceanography, Petroleum Geosciences, and Geochemistry from a recognized university.
  • Geophysicist Group ‘A’ (GSI) & Scientist ‘B’ (Geophysics):
    • M.Sc. in Physics, Applied Physics, Geophysics, Exploration Geophysics, Applied Geophysics, Marine Geophysics, or M.Sc. (Tech.) (Applied Geophysics) from a recognized university.
  • Chemist Group ‘A’ (GSI) & Scientist ‘B’ (Chemical):
    • M.Sc. in Chemistry, Applied Chemistry, and Analytical Chemistry from a recognized university.
  • Scientist ‘B’ (Hydrogeology) & Assistant (Hydrogeologist):
    • Master’s in Geology, Applied Geology, Marine Geology, or Hydrogeology from a recognized university.
  • Assistant (Chemist) Group ‘B’ (C.G.W.B.):
    • Master’s or Integrated Master’s in Chemistry, Applied Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Hydro-Chemistry, or Industrial Chemistry from a recognized university.

Age Limit: 

Candidates must be between 21 and 32 years of age as of January 1, 2025. Age relaxation is applicable as per government norms.

Selection Process:

  • Preliminary Examination: February 9, 2025.
  • Main Examination: 21st & 22nd June, 2025
  • Personality Test/Interview

How to Apply: 

  1. Apply online at https://upsconline.nic.in after One Time Registration (OTR). OTR is a one-time process and can be done anytime.
  2. Provide necessary documents (DOB, category, educational qualifications, etc.) with the application. Failure to provide documents will result in cancellation.
  3. OTR Modification: This can be changed once, within 7 days after the closure of the first application.
  4. Application Form Correction: Allowed from 25.09.2024 to 01.10.2024. Changes to OTR must be done via the OTR platform.
  5. No withdrawal of application after submission.
  6. Provide details of a valid Photo ID (Aadhaar, Voter ID, PAN, etc.) and upload a scanned copy.
  7. Last Date for Application: 24.09.2024, by 18:00 Hours.
  8. e-Admission Certificate: Downloadable from the UPSC website on the last working day before the exam.

Application Fees:

  • Fee: ₹200 (except for Female/SC/ST/PwBD candidates).
  • Payment Methods: SBI Branch (cash), Credit/Debit Card, UPI, or Internet Banking.
  • Cash Payment: Generate Pay-in-slip by 23.09.2024, 11:59 p.m., and deposit at SBI by the next working day.
  • Deadline: Cash payments are allowed until SBI banking hours on 24.09.2024. Online payments (cards, UPI, net banking) are available until 6:00 p.m. on 24.09.2024.
