UPSC Civil Services IAS/IFS Examination 2025

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) invites applications from eligible candidates for the prestigious Civil Services Examination (IAS) and Indian Forest Service Examination (IFS) for 2025. These exams are gateways to join the highest echelons of administration and service in India.

Both examinations will begin with a common Civil Services Preliminary Examination, followed by specialized Main Examinations and Interviews for the respective services.

Vacancies:

Applications are invited for the following positions:

• IAS: Approximately 979 vacancies (including reservations).
• IFS: Approximately 150 vacancies (including reservations).

Eligibility Criteria:

Nationality:

1. For IAS/IFS:
   • Must be a citizen of India.
2. Other Services:
   • Citizens of Nepal, Bhutan, Tibetan refugees (pre-1962), or individuals of Indian origin who migrated from select countries can apply, provided they have eligibility certificates from the Government of India.

Educational Qualifications:

1. IAS:
   • A degree from a recognized university or an equivalent qualification.
2. IFS:
   • A bachelor’s degree with at least one of the following subjects: Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Zoology, Agriculture, Forestry, or Engineering.

Age Limit:

• Minimum: 21 years.
• Maximum: 32 years (as of August 1, 2025).(Relaxation as per category: SC/ST – 5 years, OBC – 3 years, PwBD – 10 years, etc.)

Number of Attempts:

• General/EWS: 6 attempts.
• OBC: 9 attempts.
• SC/ST: Unlimited (till age limit).

Selection Process:

1. Preliminary Examination (Objective Type): Common for IAS and IFS.
2. Main Examination (Written):
   • IAS: Includes essay, general studies, and optional subject papers.
   • IFS: Focuses on forestry-related subjects and allied topics.
3. Interview/Personality Test.

How to Apply:

• Candidates must register through the One-Time Registration (OTR) platform at https://upsconline.gov.in.
• Complete the online application before February 11, 2025, 6:00 PM.

Application Fee:

• General/OBC/EWS: ₹100.
• SC/ST/PwBD/Female: Exempted.

General Instructions:

• Ensure the photograph uploaded is recent (within 10 days).
• Carry a government-issued photo ID during all exam stages.
