Selection Process for SSC CGL 2024
The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Examination to recruit candidates for various Group B and Group C posts in different ministries, departments, and organizations of the Government of India. The selection process for SSC CGL 2024 involves four tiers, each designed to assess different skills and competencies. Below is the detailed selection process:
Tier 1:
Mode:Â Computer-Based Test (CBT)
Purpose:Â Preliminary screening to shortlist candidates for Tier 2.
Exam Pattern:
- Sections:Â General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, English Comprehension
- Total Questions:Â 100 (25 questions per section)
- Total Marks:Â 200 (50 marks per section)
- Duration:Â 60 minutes
- Negative Marking:Â 0.50 marks for each incorrect answer
Shortlisting:Â Candidates who qualify Tier 1 based on the cut-off marks set by SSC will be eligible to appear for Tier 2.
Tier 2:
Mode:Â Computer-Based Test (CBT)
Purpose: In-depth assessment of candidates’ knowledge and skills in specific subjects.
Exam Pattern:
1. Paper I: Quantitative Abilities
- Total Questions:Â 100
- Total Marks:Â 200
- Duration:Â 2 hours
- Negative Marking:Â 0.50 marks for each incorrect answer
2. Paper II: English Language & Comprehension
- Total Questions:Â 200
- Total Marks:Â 200
- Duration:Â 2 hours
- Negative Marking:Â 0.25 marks for each incorrect answer
3. Paper III: Statistics (for Junior Statistical Officer)
- Total Questions:Â 100
- Total Marks:Â 200
- Duration:Â 2 hours
- Negative Marking:Â 0.50 marks for each incorrect answer
4. Paper IV: General Studies (Finance and Economics)Â (for Assistant Audit Officer/Assistant Accounts Officer)
- Total Questions:Â 100
- Total Marks:Â 200
- Duration:Â 2 hours
- Negative Marking:Â 0.50 marks for each incorrect answer
Shortlisting:Â Candidates who qualify Tier 2 based on the cut-off marks set by SSC will be eligible to appear for Tier 3.
Tier 3:
Mode:Â Descriptive Paper (Pen and Paper Mode)
Purpose: Assessment of candidates’ writing skills in English/Hindi.
Exam Pattern:
- Total Marks:Â 100
- Duration:Â 60 minutes
- Sections:Â Essay Writing, Letter/Application Writing, Precis Writing
- Language:Â English or Hindi
Shortlisting:Â Candidates who qualify Tier 3 based on the cut-off marks set by SSC will be eligible to appear for Tier 4.
Tier 4:
Mode:Â Skill Test/Computer Proficiency Test (CPT)/Document Verification
Purpose: Final assessment of candidates’ practical skills and verification of documents.
Tests:
1. Data Entry Speed Test (DEST):
- Requirement:Â Typing 2000 words in 15 minutes on a computer in English.
- Applicable Posts:Â Tax Assistants (Central Excise and Income Tax).
2. Computer Proficiency Test (CPT):
- Requirement:Â Proficiency in Word Processing, Spreadsheets, and Generation of Slides.
- Applicable Posts:Â Assistant Section Officer in CSS, MEA, and AFHQ.
3. Document Verification:
- Requirement:Â Verification of all the required documents and certificates.
Final Selection:
- Merit List:Â The final merit list will be prepared based on the aggregate marks obtained in Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3.
- Post Preferences: Candidates’ preferences for various posts will be considered during the allocation process.
- Document Verification:Â Candidates must clear the document verification process to be considered for final selection.
Important Notes:
- Normalization:Â Marks scored by candidates in Tier 1 and Tier 2 will be normalized as per SSC guidelines.
- Cut-off Marks:Â SSC will determine the cut-off marks for each tier based on various factors such as the number of vacancies, the difficulty level of the exam, and the performance of candidates.
Candidates must ensure they are well-prepared for each tier to maximize their chances of success in the SSC CGL 2024 examination.
