The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has released a recruitment notification for Research Associate & Junior Research Fellow. INCOIS is a leading institute in operational oceanography under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India. With cutting-edge research infrastructure, INCOIS provides oceanographic information and advisories to public stakeholders, supported by advanced R&D in areas like ocean modeling, marine biogeochemistry, climate sciences, and disaster management.

Vacancy & Salary Details:

Applications are invited for a total of 39 vacant posts under the following categories:

Research Associate (RA) 9 UR: 6, SC: 1, OBC: 2 ₹67,000/month + HRA
Junior Research Fellow (JRF) 30 UR: 14, SC: 4, ST: 2, OBC: 7, EWS: 3 ₹37,000/month + HRA

Eligibility Criteria:

1. Research Associate (RA)

  • Age Limit: Maximum 35 years
  • Essential Qualifications:
    • Option 1: Ph.D. in any of the following disciplines:
      • Seismology, Physics, Geophysics, Earth Sciences, Oceanography, Marine Sciences, Marine Biology, Atmospheric Sciences, Climate Sciences, Meteorology, Physical Oceanography, Chemical Oceanography, Mathematics.
    • Option 2: Master’s degree in relevant disciplines listed above with:
      • At least 3 years of research, teaching, or design experience.
      • Minimum 2 research papers in Science Citation Index (SCI) journals.
  • Desirable Skills:
    • Experience in seismic data analysis, tsunami hazard assessment, and ocean modeling.
    • Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB, C++).
    • Knowledge of GIS tools and climate/ocean numerical modeling.

2. Junior Research Fellow (JRF)

  • Age Limit: Maximum 28 years
  • Essential Qualifications:
    • Master’s degree in any branch of Science or Engineering.
    • Must have cleared a national-level Ph.D. eligibility test, such as:
      • CSIR-UGC NET, UGC NET, ICAR NET (Lectureship/Assistant Professorship/Ph.D. eligibility), GATE, JEST.
    • Bachelor’s degree must include Physics, Mathematics, or Chemistry as an elective/subsidiary subject.
    • Minimum aggregate marks in Master’s degree:
      • General/OBC: 60%
      • SC/ST/EWS/PwBD: 55%
    • Validity of fellowship or eligibility test results until September 2025.
  • Additional Considerations:
    • Candidates with an INSPIRE fellowship may apply.
    • Provisional applicants in their final year of M.Sc./M.S./M.Tech./M.E. may also apply but must fulfill all eligibility criteria before December 2026.

General Relaxations:

  • SC/ST/PwBD/Women Candidates: 5 years age relaxation.
  • OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) Candidates: 3 years age relaxation

Selection Process:

1. Screening of Applications

  • All applications will be screened by a duly constituted Screening Committee.
  • Screening will be based on the eligibility criteria specified in the advertisement.
  • Additional criteria may be introduced to shortlist candidates for the next stage, depending on the number of applications received.

2. Written Test (If Required)

  • If the number of applicants is large, INCOIS may conduct a written test to shortlist candidates for the interview.
  • Purpose of Written Test:
    • The written test is only a qualifying stage to shortlist candidates for the interview.
    • Marks obtained in the test will not be considered for the final selection.
  • Shortlisted candidates based on the test will proceed to the interview stage.

3. Interview

  • Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview conducted by the Selection Committee.
  • The final selection will be based solely on the performance in the interview.

4. Communication

  • Only shortlisted candidates will be notified via email.
  • Call letters for interviews will also be sent by email.
  • No communication will be made to candidates who are not shortlisted.
