The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is a national-level entrance examination conducted annually for admissions to undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) law programs offered by 24 National Law Universities (NLUs) across India by the Consortium of National Law Universities. The CLAT 2026 Notification is expected to be released in May 2025.

CLAT 2026 Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for the UG & PG CLAT 2026, candidates should possess the following qualifications:

Undergraduate (UG) Program:

  • Educational Qualification: Candidates must have completed 10+2 or an equivalent examination with a minimum of 45% marks for General/OBC/PwD/NRI/PIO/OCI categories and 40% for SC/ST categories.

  • Age Limit: No upper age limit.​

Postgraduate (PG) Program:

  • Educational Qualification: Candidates must have an LL.B. degree or equivalent with a minimum of 50% marks for General/OBC/PwD/NRI/PIO/OCI categories and 45% for SC/ST categories.

  • Age Limit: No upper age limit.

CLAT 2026 Exam Pattern:

Below is the detailed exam pattern for UG & PG CLAT 2026:

UG-CLAT 2026 Exam Pattern:

  • Mode: Offline (Pen and Paper)
  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Type of Questions: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
  • Total Questions: 120
  • Marking Scheme: +1 for correct answer, -0.25 for incorrect answer
  • Sections:
    • English Language (22-26 questions)
    • Current Affairs, including General Knowledge (28-32 questions)
    • Legal Reasoning (28-32 questions)
    • Logical Reasoning (22-26 questions)
    • Quantitative Techniques (10-14 questions)​

PG-CLAT 2026 Exam Pattern:

  • Mode: Offline (Pen and Paper)
  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Type of Questions: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
  • Total Questions: 120
  • Marking Scheme: +1 for correct answer, -0.25 for incorrect answer
  • Sections:
    • Constitutional Law
    • Other areas of law such as Jurisprudence, Administrative Law, Law of Contract, Torts, Family Law, Criminal Law, Property Law, Company Law, Public International Law, Tax Law, Environmental Law, and Labour & Industrial Law

CLAT 2026 Application Form Fee:

  • General/OBC/PwD/NRI/PIO/OCI: ₹4,000

  • SC/ST/BPL: ₹3,500

CLAT scores are accepted by 24 NLUs across India, including:​

  • Fill out the application form with accurate details.

  • Pay the application fee.
